AN animal rescue centre near Highbridge is offering the public the chance experience volunteer work at the centre during an open weekend.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre near Highbridge helps more than 5,000 sick or injured animals each year and will give wildlife lovers the chance to get up close and personal with some of their furry residents at the volunteer recruitment open weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

The busy wildlife rescue centre near Highbridge relies on volunteers to help rescue, rehabilitate and release wild animals.

They have seen a record number of sick, injured and orphaned wild animals in need of help recently, with over 1,000 wildlife casualties over the past month alone.

The centre is in need of more volunteers to help give the animals the best possible care.

Secret World is inviting the public to try out some of the tasks an animal care volunteer would carry out and see some of the animals that they could work with.

A spokesperson for Secret World said: “Volunteering offers many benefits.

“You can enjoy a unique experience, caring for and rehabilitating a whole range of British wildlife.

“Secret World cares for birds, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs and more.

“You can gain valuable work experience, and a reference for work or education. “You can meet new people from all age ranges and backgrounds with a common cause.”

Secret World’s volunteer recruitment weekend is on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, from 10am to 4pm.

Secret World is at: Secret World Wildlife Rescue, New Road, East Huntspill, Highbridge, Somerset TA9 3PZ.
