25 YEARS AGO August 3, 1990: POLICE received an urgent call from Burnham’s Crown Post Office on Tuesday morning to say they had received a suspect parcel from which there was a buzzing sound.

Officers who were sent to investigate found a letter from a mail order firm, attached to the top of the parcel, indicating that it contained a battery operated razor.

20 YEARS AGO AUGUST 4, 1995: ORGANISERS of Pawlett summer fete were all smiles as they worked together to raise funds for an ambitious project to upgrade their village hall.

Visitors to the fete took part in games, bought from stalls and watched children dance around Pawlett’s Maypole.

10 YEARS AGO AUGUST 3, 2005: CROWDS braved the rain for the Under the Summer Moon concert at the BASC Sports Ground which attracted 1,200 people to enjoy a line-up featuring renowned tribute artists and local talent.

Budding John Peel’s and Jo Wiley’s flocked to auditions for a chance to become the new voice of Coast Radio in Berrow.

LIVEFOOD UK, a Rooksbridge firm selling mail-order crickets, locusts and mealworms, clocked up 3.5 million orders for its products.

Founder Steve Rolfe said they were selling an estimated 200,000 brown crickets, 50,000 black crickets 14,000 locusts each week.
