A HIGHBRIDGE mum is undertaking her biggest challenge yet and trekking the Great Wall of China to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Jenny Allen, who's 21-year-old daughter, Tilly Jefferies, suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, is embarking on her 50 mile six day walk of the famous landmark on September 10.

She is keen to raise funds for the charity because Tilly has battled lung infections with prolonged hospital admissions and is dependent on oxygen.

She has a rigorous daily physio therapy and drug treatment routine. with her mum being her carer.

Jenny also lost her niece, Leanne Woodward, aged just 22 to the genetically inherited condition in September 2013/ Jenny said: "I've got mixed feelings about the trek.

"I'm very nervous about it and it's a daunting experience because although it's an organised trip, I don'ty know anyone.

"My daughter's health is deteriorating and so far I have raised just over three and a half thousand pounds.

"If I could make it to four that would be great."

Jenny has been training for her challenge by walking from her home in Highbridge to Brean Down along the beach.

"This is my favourite route," she said.

"I've been doing about 21 miles so far and have walked Brent Knoll and the Quantocks but it's difficult to find anywhere with enough hills around this area.

"It's a bit lonely when I'm out doing it by myself but sometimes my husband does bits with me.

"Friends and family have been so supportive because I didn't realise just how much time it would take up, with being Tilly's carer as well.

"I also work at Holywell nursing home to help fund my travelling expenses."

Jenny would like to raise awareness about the importance of people being on the donor list, because at present this is the only option Tilly has.

"If Tilly is accepted, it is the last answer that we have.

"Anyone who knows me would know that I am the least energetic person you could meet, but I firmly believe any inconvenience or hardship I may have during the China challenge is nothing when compared to Tilly's daily struggle and all those who live with Cystic Fibrosis.

"One in three people with the condition will die before the age of 40 and for most the only hope of improving their quality of life is to have a lung transplant.

"Sadly as so few people opt onto the organ donor list, one in three will lose their fight before they get a call from the transplant team.

"Tilly is happily married and I just want her health to be better."
