A CAFE, new facilities and improved toilets could be created at Apex Park under new proposals if the BMX Club moves.

Part of the land at the park in Highbridge is home to the BMX Track which the BMX Club lease from Sedgemoor District Council.

The club is looking to expand and is considering relocating to a different site which would terminate their current lease with the council.

The track and land are not available for public use but this could change under new proposals.

Housing developments are excluded as the land will not be sold but leased on a long-term basis.

In exchange for offering a 50 year lease to another party for the site, the authority said it could secure some funding.

The money would be used to enhance the facilities in the park, and so far proposals include an an all-weather year-round café facility, improving the toilet facilities and/or extending the park building to allow for increased educational and event use.

The Friends of Apex Park have been consulted on this proposal and the initial suggestions for improvement projects, should funding be available, were proposed following consultation with the group.

The council is carrying out a consultation to seek the public's views on this proposal.

If you would like to complete a survey they will be available in the park on:

Wednesday August 19, 5-7pm in the Apex office building in Apex car park.

Those unable to attend the park to complete a survey can complete an online version, available online until Thursday August 27 at sedgemoor.gov.uk/apexbmxsurvey.

Once surveys have been returned and the results collated they will form part of a public report taken to Sedgemoor District Council's Executive Committee.
