A HIGH-ACHIEVING Highbridge youngster has earned himself an award from the Royal Geographical Society for his fantastic grades.

Thomas Harkness from King Alfred School won an award for his outstanding work in GCSE Geography, achieving one the highest marks in the subject nationally.

Tom said: "It was an honour to be recognised by the Society for my achievement, as Geography was always one of my favourite subjects when at school.

"Thanks to the hard work and effort by my teachers to make the subject enjoyable and interesting, I was always intrigued by what was happening in the world.

"They inspired me to always put 100% per cent effort into the subject, making real world links that allowed me to always connect to the subject."

Steve Brace, the Society’s Head of Education and Outdoor Learning, added: “The Royal Geographical Society is delighted to recognise the hard work and success of those pupils who achieved the highest marks nationally in the 2015 geography examinations.

“The pupils receiving these awards have all demonstrated their excellent understanding of geography as a subject and how it can inform us about the world we live in. Their exceptional marks reflect both their ability as geographers and the high quality teaching that takes place in their schools.”
