THE Post Office has reassured residents following the recent closure of the Highrbridge branch and said they have identified several businesses who could house a new branch.

The Post Office announced the news yesterday (October 11) after the Church Street outlet's postmaster resigned.

A spokesman for the Post Office said: “The situation at Highbridge Post Office is that the operator, Mr Watts, has resigned and will cease to provide Post Offices services after business on Tuesday, October 24.

"This means that the Post Office will close from Wednesday, October 25 whilst we try and find a way to restore services to the community."

But representatives at the Post Office said they are looking to the future and have identified several businesses in the area who could accomodate a new branch.

The spokesman added: "In the meantime, we will provide support to the two closest receiving branches at Burnham on Sea and Brent Knoll so that customers can access services at these branches.

"We are committed to see services restored to Highbridge as soon as possible.

"Any relocation of the Post Office will be subject to a period of public consultation.

"We will be writing out formally to all local stakeholders in the near future."
