FIFTY students from The King Alfred School enjoyed a high-energy 90 minute performance of Macbeth in Burnham-on-Sea.

Year 10 and 11 pupils from the school on Burnham Road are studying Macbeth as part of their GCSE English Literature course and watched intently as the Scottish play was brought to life by actors, Troels Hagen Findsen & Paul O'Mahony at The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre on February 9.

Prior to the performance the students enjoyed a 30 minute question and answer session with the actors.

A spokesman for The King Alfred School said the students enjoyed the performance.

" Paul O’Mahony who played Macbeth was keen to stress how they wanted to draw out Macbeth’s volatility and the way in which the time urgency of the play results in the tragic outcome.

"During the performance the actors made full use of the audience with several taking on lines of servants, guests at the ‘Banquet’ scene.

"Miss Harvey even ended up treading the boards herself as the deranged sleepwalking Lady Macbeth of Act 5 Scene 1 pulled her out of the third row in a frenzy of guilt.

"GCSE Drama students present commented on the impressive level of energy maintained by the actors and unique characterisation they had managed to bring to the different roles.

"We would like to thank all at The Princess Theatre for making us so welcome."
