A CROWD gathered around the Frank Foley memorial in Highbridge today to mark World Holocaust Day.
Reverend Andrew Jackson from the Hope Baptist Church, assisted by Rev Christine Judson of St John's Church, held a short service on the Town Green in Market Street at midday.
Burnham and Highbridge mayor Derick Cooper and his wife Christine laid a wreath in memory of all those who were killed in the atrocities 65 years ago.
World Holocaust Day marks the anniversary of the day in 1945 on which the Soviet Army liberated the largest Nazi concentration camp – Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Each year, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust urges everyone in the UK to pause and reflect on what can happen when racism, prejudice and exclusionary behaviour are left unchecked, and how the lessons of the past can play a part in our communities today.
