THE newest addition to the Avon and Somerset Police Mounted Section has been given his official name.

The new recruit, a six-year-old 17h-high bay Clydesdale cross, has been named Trinity.

It is tradition within the force for many of the horses to be named in relation to the Avon and Somerset area. In the stable blocks you will find Quantock, Somerset, Clifton and now Trinity, to name just a few.

Trinity, who has been training with us for five months, has now taken over the reins from Thomas, who retired last week.

He will be following in his hoof prints and did his first official patrol around Clifton yesterday (Monday, November 3).

Trinity was presented with his new name plate by Lawrence Hill councillor Margaret Hickman and Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens.

Ms Mountstevens said: “I was delighted to be asked to officially name Trinity. I hope that Thomas, who he replaces, enjoys his retirement and I have every faith that Trinity will be a valuable addition to the mounted section.”

Mounted section Sgt Kerry Williams said: “He has had a fantastic start to his operational career.

"He has a great attitude to his work as he is laid back, but interested and attentive to what’s around him.

“He has spent some time training with Devon and Cornwall Police and has started some night patrols in Bristol City centre.

"Every situation he has taken in his stride and he is eager to learn. He is a true gentleman and loves a good fuss, which is well deserved as he was born to be a police horse!”
