THE RSPCA is holding its own rival dog show to Crufts in a bid to celebrate pooches who might not be so perfect looking on the outside.

‘Ruffs’ challenges the traditional beauty pageant style dog show, celebrating them for their welfare and happiness, whether they are pedigrees, crossbreeds, rescues or otherwise.

This year, Bramble from Somerset is one of the finalists in the Best Transformation category.

Her heartwarming story touched the hearts of the judges, but now it’s up to the public to decide whether she will be crowned the winner.

“Bramble was found in a pitiful state. Emaciated, covered in deep sores and with exposed tendons and bone on her legs and tail,” said Ruffs organiser Violet Owens.

“Bramble went to RSPCA West Hatch to recover from her appalling injuries and it was decided that after all he’d been through Bramble would do best placed in a foster home.”

Sharon, Bramble’s foster carer and future adopter added: “Bramble came home with us for foster just before Christmas and instantly settled in with our other rescue dog Charlie.

“When it was time to take her back to the rehoming centre I reluctantly did.

“She is the friendliest and most loving dog you will ever meet.

“True love has blossomed between Bramble and Charlie and they are inseparable.”

This is the second year of the Ruffs and last year’s competition saw hundreds of thousands of people voting throughout the week.

Voting opened today, (March 2), and each category is in an album on the RSPCA Official Facebook page.

You can vote via ‘likes’ on the page and the winner in each category will be through to the ‘Best in Show’ final on Sunday, with the overall winner being announced that day.
