The court heard that the woman also threw bottles back at Phillips.

England supporters were involved in a number of large-scale disorders with Russian fans before, during and after the match, which was held at Stade Velodrome in Marseille.

England fans had gathered in the city ahead of the Three Lions' first match of the tournament, but were involved in a number of incidents as violence erupted throughout the historic French port.

Scores of people were injured in the ugly scenes, with fighting also breaking out inside the stadium following Russia's last-gasp equaliser, with Russian fans seemingly breaking through the segregation and charging at England fans.

Uefa branded the behaviour of both England and Russia fans before and after the game ''unacceptable'' and said it would not hesitate to impose additional sanctions.

The governing body has also said Russia and England could face disqualification from the tournament if there is a repeat of the trouble.

England manager Roy Hodgson and captain Wayne Rooney have also  appealed directly to fans to "stay out of trouble" following Uefa's threat to expel the team from Euro 2016.

The pair recorded a video, shared by the Football Association on Twitter, in which Hodgson asked fans to ensure that Uefa's threats to dismiss England and Russia "are never carried out".

Rooney asked those without tickets for games not to travel.

Phillips was not the only England fan to be jailed today.

Alexander Booth and Ian Hepworth were the first fans to be dealt with.

Booth, 20, from Huddersfield, was jailed for two months for throwing a bottle at police and banned from France for two years.

Hepworth, 41, a psychiatric nurse from Sheffield, was given a three month sentence for the same offence and the same ban.

Ashley Kelly, 26, from Birmingham, was imprisoned for three months and given a two-year ban from France for throwing seven bottles outside the stadium.

Paul Jackson, 21, from Halifax, received a one month in jail and a two-year ban after he threw bottles at police and supporters on Saturday.
