MUSICIANS, cricketers, public figures, groups, organisations and Somerset County Council staff all showed their hearts to support adoption in Somerset.

It was to mark National Adoption Week (October 17-23), and Somerset County Council high- lighted the growing need for adopters by encouraging people to photograph themselves wearing a heart to show their support for adoption.

Hundreds of people shared their picture on the Adoption in Somerset Facebook page and by tagging @adoptsomerset on Twitter.

Council staff across the county also wore hearts to work to raise awareness with a special dress-down day.

Cllr Frances Nicholson, cabinet member for Children and Families, said: “Thank you to everyone who got involved and supported adoption in Somerset last week. The response has been fantastic and social media has been flooded with amazing photos of people showing their hearts to support adoption.”

People who supported the heart campaign included Darren Way Manager of Yeovil Town Football Club, Jack Leach and Tom Abell from Somerset County Cricket Club, Peter Budd and Tommy Banner from the Wurzels, Rt Reverend Ruth Worsley Bishop of Taunton, Frome Mayor Cllr Toby Eliot, Taunton Deane Mayor Cllr Vivienne Stock-Williams and award winning blogger Jo – plus many more.

Cllr Nicholson continued: “We cannot thank you enough. All of the activity helps to raise awareness of adoption and gets people thinking about whether they can adopt a child or children.”
