Ladies Hockey: White Eagles II 0, Burnham 1
Sedgemoor Division 2
White Eagles II 0, Burnham Ladies 1
BURNHAM owe this important win to their captain and player of the match Carly Bush who performed heroics in goal to preserve a hard fought three points.
Bush and her defensive team kept the Eagles at bay at both penalty corners and during open play, her best coming when she dived one way but kept the ball out with her foot going the other way. In the middle of the pitch Chelsea Fisher and Alannah Frost showed composure and maturity as they worked hard to get their team flowing in attack.Kerry Harvey created numerous chances with her mazy dribbling and Burnham actually took the lead against the run of play from a short corner she helped to win.Nicki Glanvilles strike at goal was saved but the rebound fell to top scorer June England who made no mistake in slotting it home.In the second half, Ali Evely and Louise Peace worked tirelessly in midfield with Frost and Harvey combining brilliantly to create a scoring chance that Frost saw saved.
Fisher went close with a carefully placed shot and Harvey saw her prod at goal somehow saved right on the line as White Eagles ran out of steam and Burnham sealed the points.Next match for the team is on Saturday at home and Sunday away at Taunton Civil Service.
*THE ladies are also holding a quiz night tomorrow (Friday) for funds towards the hockey club.
