Burnham II 114-4 beat Horrington II 113-9 by 6 wkts

BURNHAM maintained their 100% league record with a comfortable win at Horrington.

Horrington's openers, Abbott (26) and G Gray (13), initially made slow yet steady progress against the bowling of Jim Birkett and Darren Aston, taking the score to 44 in the 17th over.

However, the introduction of Andy Birkett spelled disaster for Horrington, as he claimed the scalps of both openers within his first three overs.

From then on, Horrington struggled to build a substantial partnership, with none of their last six batsmen reaching double figures, thanks to some excellent bowling from Andy Birkett, who finished with the outstanding figures of 6-18 off his 11 overs.

In reply, Burnham got off to a shaky start, with Duncan Harvey caught for two after misjudging a stroke. Gavin Clifton (13) smashed a huge six but was then bowled, and Jake Harding (seven) and Lee Coles (five) were soon following him back to the pavilion.

Thankfully for Burnham, Andy Ashfold (38 not out) held his nerve and when Aston strode to the crease, there was 60 needed to win, but the pair knocked the runs off with ten overs to spare.
