Somerset County League First Division
Burnham United 2, Fry Club 2
BURNHAM'S final match of the season saw them host another side looking for promotion.
United started slowly and as with the reverse fixture found themselves a goal down inside the first ten minutes.
This seemed to stir the home side on and after another swift counter attack it was Leaf who ghosted inside a number of challenges and chipped the keeper from outside of the box.
The visitors worked hard but never really troubled the back line of Bidgood, Holley, Cannard and Stevens and when they did get behind Will Lamb was his unbeatable self, even when he inadvertently threw the ball to a Fry striker he still saved the ensuing effort.
Just before half time a United shot was handled in the area and Hirons coolly rolled the ball down the middle to put them in front.
Warren Mylum and Ed Lamb were outstanding again in midfield but with the home side on track for another victory, a penalty to the visitors with just seven minutes remaining to snatch a share of the points.
Manager Luke Hussey said: “I am disappointed not to beat another top of the table side but very satisfied with how we have developed over the course of the season, particularly our final few matches where we have become very hard to beat and look more like the side I want us to become.”
Man-of-the-match was Nathan Bishop.
