Four-star Berrow sink Nailsea

Errea Somerset County League Premier Division - Berrow 4, Nailsea United 1
BERROW notched their second win of the season with an emphatic 4-1 victory over last season’s champions Nailsea United in the Premier Division of the Errea Somerset County League.
A remarkable strike from Luke McErlain, who lobbed the keeper form the halfway line, plus goals from Dax Vincent (2) and Ellis Harper, gave Berrow the three points at Red Road.
Captain McErlain opened the scoring for Berrow with an early contender for goal of the season. Noticing the goalkeeper was off his line, McErlian hit a superb shot from just shy of halfway, to score one of the best goals ever seen at Red Road.
This seemed to stir Nailsea and they were beginning to see a lot of the ball without creating a clear chance, while Berrow were always a threat with Dax Vincent and Luke Morgan not giving the defence any time to relax.
Ross McErlain hit the post from the edge of the box, but Berrow doubled their lead on 40 minutes when Vincent latched on to a Morgan flick to lob the on rushing goalkeeper.
With pretty much the last kick of the half it was three, as more good work from Vincent and Morgan saw Ellis Harper race through to beat the keeper with a lovely finish.
Berrow began the second half well and were looking to make the game safe despite Nailsea now having the strong wind at their backs.
Vincent put the game to bed with his second of the afternoon, courtesy of a slight deflection with twenty minutes left to play, but Nailsea did pull a goal back with help of an unfortunate own goal.
Ross McErlain and Morgan both went close to making it five, before Steve Osgood and Steve Eley came on for Morgan and Vincent to give them a well earned rest.
The final chance fell to Osgood after being put through by Eley, but the keeper made a good save with his legs.
Manager Ryan McErlain was delighted with his side’s performance, especially defensively after shipping four goals in the bizarre midweek draw with Langford.
He said: “We changed formation and it seemed to solidify things, as we frustrated Nailsea as they enjoyed long periods of possession without creating a clear opportunity.”
Berrow play host to Clutton on Saturday.
