Tribute Western Counties West
Burnham 27, Devenport Services 19
BURNHAM battled their way to a hard-fought bonus-point win against a determined Devenport Services’ side.
Tries from Stuart Blake (2), Mike Hocking and a penalty try sealed a valuable five-points for the hosts, who were made to work hard for the full 80 minutes.
After a shaky start, Burnham’s powerful pack took control and Blake’s first score sent into a 10-9 lead.
Services hit back with an interception try and a further penalty before the break to take a 19-10 lead.
A tighter approach from Burnham in the second half paid considerable dividends as the pack’s power was once again on show for all to see.
A penalty try followed soon after, before Blake added his second score of the afternoon.
One final drive sealed the all important fourth try for the bonus point and gave Burnham an eight-point cushion and put the game out of Services’ reach.
The result keeps Burnham hot on the tail of leaders Ivybridge, with just three points now the difference in Western Counties West.
## BURNHAM travel to Tavistock next Saturday (January 11), before taking on Ivybridge in a top of the table clash the week after.
