Burnham Ladies 2, Minehead 3

BURNHAM Ladies appear to be struggling to get back into the swing of things after the festive period.

They again suffered from a slow start but in the end were unlucky not to take a share of the spoils.

With several youngsters included and giving a good account of themselves, Burnham had to make a few adjustments throughout.

Lauren Cook and Ellie Bishop looked quick and lively upfront and linked well with Kerry Harvey in attack and forced their ‘keeper into several excellent saves - including one from her own defender.

Imogen Wright & Jenna Bushell supported midfield and defence well in their small cameo roles and were calm under pressure.

Despite Carly Bush and Sarah Johnson's best efforts putting some great balls into the D, Burnham fell behind before half time.

A tactical switch at the start of the second half saw Burnham get their equaliser almost straight away and began to look bright and strong.

Tracey Dunn's accurate ball out of defence found Louise Peace who instantly fired a cross into the unmarked Harvey who smashed it past the ‘keeper in a stunning three-touch move from defence to attack.

Nicki Glanville then made a superb clearance on the line when it seemed impossible for their striker to miss and Sian Kelly had to be on her toes as she repelled a few shots in succession.

Unfortunately, neither could do anything about a smart short corner routine and then a fierce strike form top d that put Minehead in control again.

Burnham upped their effort and Chelsea Fisher was a driving force down the left linking well with Bush & Harvey.

Johnson continued in her starring role pushing on at every opportunity and firing some wonderful crosses into the D and just failing to connect with a short at the near post. Bush and Dunn also had shorts blocked from shorts before Burnham benefited from one.

Peace pushed out to Dunn who slipped it to Johnson to crack home at the second attempt.

Burnham looked to be edging close to that elusive equaliser but unfortunately time ran out for them as they ended the match positively.
