Burnham 1, Chard 1

BURNHAM put in a magnificent team performance against their top of the table rivals, definitely deserving at least this point and maybe more.

They totally dominated the first half and should have been more comfortably ahead at the break.

The attack of June England, Amy Edmundson and Kerry Harvey looked really sharp and fresh - and looked like they could score every time they went forward and almost did straight from the hit off.

Harvey had the beating of her marker and put some super crosses into the D after some amazing dribbling, whilst Edmundson hit the post.

England put the Blues ahead after great passing from back to front left her with a sweep in at the far post.

Burnham looked like they would increase this lead as they battered the visitors in every section of the pitch.

The midfield trio of Carly Bush, Caroline Hunt and Louise Peace ran the show, covering every part of the pitch with their energy and determination.

Hunt dragged a shot just wide and Bush saw her shot well saved as she drove into the D.

As expected Chard came more into the game after the interval and the home defence were brilliant under pressure. Emma Ballard had to clear off the line before vital tackles from Tracey Dunn and Chelsea Fisher prevented an equaliser.

However, Chard were not to be outdone and levelled the score midway through the half.

Burnham did not let this affect them though and although they were tiring still had chances to nick the win.

Imogen Wright and Jenna Bushell played well in their cameo roles when they came on to freshen things up.

Goalkeeper Vicki Dyer then made a fantastic save from a shot that was destined for the corner which seemed to inspire the blues to one last push for the winner.

Sarah Johnson constantly linked well with the attack as she raided down the right putting in crosses and providing good support and Edmundson almost benefitted - stabbing one shot just wide and then firing across goal which just missed the far post and England's outstretched stick.

Burnham’s next match is Saturday March 1, away at White Eagles.
