EIGHT Belles have won the Burnham, Highbridge & District Ladies’ Skittles League’s Premier Division.

The Belles, whose home alley is the Victoria Hotel, took on Nitwits this week and won by 29.

Maybee’s won by 12 at the 37 Club over Watchfield Belles, leaving Maybee’s and Nitwits with one point dividing them to fight it out for the runners-up place on the last match of the league season.

Crown Jewels player Pat Grimes must count herself most unlucky as she fell one pin short of a 90 medal on the Ritz Club. In a very high scoring game she was ably assisted by team mates Sue Marsh, 66, and Janet Coggins and Jan Acreman on 60 as they beat Berrow Breezers who will be relegated to Division 1 next season.

Leaders Bristols continued their fight for the Division 1 title when they travelled to Pawlett Pavilion and beat home team Triards.

However, with only a two-point lead they must wait until next week as they have Country Girls and Nightmares snapping at their heels.

At the Crossways Inn, Nightmares made sure of the points defeating bottom placed team Coopers Boozers and Country Girls had a big win over another of the bottom teams, Old Railway.

Wotsits had a bye and can say goodbye to their hopes of promotion. Wayward Wanderers at last won on their home alley, Morlands Social Club, as they saw off Young Ones who are just above relegation.

With the title decided in Division 2, runnersup place went to Berrow Club B who had Carol Dyer on 70 and Chris Comfort 60 to safely take the points from Burnham Utd.

Bombers took the match at the Railway Inn from division winners Victoria Vixens by 13, and Applecatchers fell to Wanderers.

A fine 71 from Pam Whitehead and 65 for Heather Swift clinched the match for Pawlett Legion against Pink Ladies but Red Devils struggled against Coasters and failed to make the grade.
