Burnham 3, ECVH 1

BURNHAM were on fire at the start of this match and two goals to the good within the first 10 minutes.

The attacking quartet of Amy Edmundson, June England, Kerry Harvey and Caroline Hunt were outstanding, gelling together no matter what combination were on the pitch.

They looked bright & sharp in their passing and with plenty of pace to match they absolutely battered the visitors.

Harvey opened the scoring when she slotted home a cool finish after great work from Carly Bush and Chelsea Fisher down the left.

Hunt doubled their lead moments later when her terrific strike from a short corner was deflected in by a defender on the post.

The Blues should have added to their lead as they continued to create good chances but a lapse in concentration at the back allowed ECVH back into the game just before half time.

Burnham looked comfortable and like they could score every time they went forward, but the start of the second half saw them put under real pressure.

ECVH felt an equaliser was close and Burnham ‘keeper Vicky Dyer had to be on her toes.

Sam Course made some super recovery tackles and linked well with Fisher down the left as Burnham worked hard to preserve their lead.

Edmundson and England both had opportunities to score before Bush brought a super save out of the away ‘keeper and she had no right to make the next save from Louise Peace, whose shot seemed to hit both her legs and then the post before rolling agonising along the line and away.

Peace then crashed another chance just wide and Harvey had a shot saved at the near post.

Just as it seemed Burnham may be made to regret all those near misses they finished with a flourish.

Edmundson at last getting on the score sheet which her overall performance deserved.

Always quick & alert in and around the D she nicked in to stab the ball through the ‘keeper’s legs after Hunt's shot had bobbled around, to finally make the win safe for Burnham.
