TWO of the Taunton & District Saturday League Division 1’s top teams, Locomotives and Bridgwater Sports, met in the Quarter-Final of the Rowbarton Charity Cup and it was a close encounter – with Locomotives coming out 3-2 winner to progress.

Locos had to fight hard and they went ahead with great strike from James Weaver, but Bridgwater Sports levelled ten minutes later through Paul Organ.

It was 1-1 at half-time, but Sam Hislop restored Locos ‘lead – only for Sports to come back again with Organ getting his second.

With 15 minutes left, Ryan Vickery smashed a free kick into the top corner to win the game for Locomotives.

Division 1 leaders Highbridge came unstuck at home to the improving Porlock who won 2-0 to go level on points with their opponents. Oli Purvis and Harry Scratchard both scored for Porlock to add a bit more tension to the title race.

North Petherton registered their first victory of the season with a 2-1 win at home to Sampford Blues.

Ollie Brewer and Josh Gracie netted for Pethy, with the former scoring from his own half.

Alcombe Rovers continued on winning ways with a 3-0 victory over a Middlezoy Rovers Reserves. Andrew Land, Mickey Bailey and Grant Hodgson scored the Rovers goals.

In Division 2, Appletree Tone Youth now have a ten-point lead at the top of the table after a 3-2 victory over Westonzoyland.

Second-placed Wembdon beat Dulverton Town 1-0 thanks to Dan Spencer’s close range finish while Stogursey beat Wyvern Rangers 2-0 to close the gap on their opponents to five points with two games in hand.

Watchet Reserves travelled to Taunton to take on Hamilton Athletic and won 5-1 thanks to four goals from Mike Williams and the other from Aaron Clausen – Tom Wadham got the Hamilton goal from a direct free kick. Minehead beat Nether Stowey 3-0.

In Division 3, The Gallery beat Morganians 3-1. After a tight first half, Morganians took the lead through Liam Tomlinson after some sloppy defending.

The Gallery immediately pulled a goal back through veteran Mark Pope, and Jake Croker added a second with a late header.

Pope added his second and Gallery’s third to ensure the victory.

Alcombe Rovers Reserves made it a good day for their club with a 5-0 victory over Highbridge Town Reserves–- Ian Lowe scored three and Jack Bodly two.

Adam Wall and Richie Meek both scored for Bridgwater Sports Reserves to give them three points in their 2-0 win over local rivals Redgate.

Division 4 leaders Tone Youth had a weekend off and had to watch as second placed Exmoor Rangers closed the gap on them at the top of the table with a 2-0 away win at Nether Stowey.

Sampford Blues Reserves beat Porlock Reserves 2-1 thank to a Liam Oaten strike and Matt Tooze’s penalty; Sean Kenny replied for Porlock.

Norton Fitzwarren were hosts to Woolavington but a slow start by the home team and what they believe was a dubious penalty sent them in two down at half-time.

Josh Corkett and Simon Coombes scored the goals for the winners.

Williton picked up a good home win beating Rhode Lane Wanderers 4-2 thanks to goals from Andrew Sully, Aaron Blande, Charlie McKeown and Dan Godfrey.

Ash Rangers slipped up in Division 5 by only drawing with mid-table Creech Cougars.

Morganians Reserves put six past Norton Fitzwarren Reserves who replied with a consolation goal of their own.

Sam Tucker scored the first and last goal for the Bridgwater side, Ashley Clapp added a hat- trick and Scott Briffett got the sixth.

Bridgwater Grasshoppers also scored six but they had to work a lot harder for their three points as Middlezoy Athletic hit five in reply in an 11-goal thriller.

Dan Saunders hit a hat-trick for Grasshoppers, Nathan Mead scored from a header, James Cornish added one and Zoy provided an own goal; both Danny Russell and Kev Cornell hit a pair for Middlezoy, with Lee Horsey scoring the other.

There were 12 goals to watch at Galmington where their Reserves beat Bridgwater Wolves 7-5.
