Watchet Town 3, Berrow 1

TEN-man Berrow slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Watchet Town on an afternoon that nothing went for them.

After an even opening ten minutes, Berrow took the lead - after Jeff Read helped on Steve Leaf’s throw-in, Dave Keirle cleverly laid it into Shaun Lismore who finished well from six yards.

Berrow were punished five minutes later after failing to clear the ball, as Nick Slack was penalised for bringing down the home striker and the penalty was confidently put away.

Leaf then struck the post from 30 yards with the ‘keeper well beaten - and Keirle’s follow-up from the angle smacked off the other post.

Keirle then had to replace Slack in goal after an injury he picked up in the penalty incident.

Berrow defended well, limiting the Watchet strikers to long range shots - and at the other end, Lismore had a good effort well saved.

Berrow suffered a further blow when 17-year-old Jack West, making his first start at centre back suffered a muscle injury and had to be replaced by Simon Peto, leading to a big reshuffle.

Ross McErlain had a free kick go just over and Keirle made a great reaction save to keep out a header.

Tom Yates replaced Shaun Lismore, but Berrow were then reduced to 10-men when Scott Lismore instinctively saved a goal-bound header to give the home side another penalty, which was comfortably converted.

Berrow pushed and pushed for an equaliser, but in the last minute with Keirle up for a corner, the home side cleared to leave Watchet’s pacy striker with a clear run at goal and simple finish.
