Tribute Western Counties West

Burnham 47, Ivybridge 18

BURNHAM avenged Saturday's defeat at Ivybridge in style with a 47-18 thrashing of the league champions on Easter Monday.

The home side ran in eight tries to seal a third place finish in Western Counties West and bounce back from Friday's narrow 37-34 defeat to the same opposition.

Tom Chaffey scored twice, while Matt Love, Josh Holder, Mike Hocking, Mason Shaw and Tim Piper all scored one.

Ivybridge again started the better of the sides and took the lead after 10 minutes with a catch and drive lineout.

Burnham drew level ten minutes later when Tuttiett gathered a long kick and fed Muskett, whose reverse pass sent Matt Love in to score.

Back came Ivybridge to produce a carbon copy of their first try, but Burnham responded again and Piper's well weighted kick sent Chaffey in for a second.

Josh Holder crossed for a third following good work from Love.

Throughout the second half, Burnham produced the kind of rugby that showed that they were more than a match for anyone - and after 10 minutes a despairing kick was collected by Tom Chaffey to race in.

Burnham conceded a penalty three minutes later to make the score 26-18.

By this time however, Burnham had the bit between their teeth and Mike Hocking broke through to score - Piper converted.

The onslaught continued and with Tuttiet spoiling opposition ball, Mason Shaw pounced on the loose ball to score.

Tim Piper rounded off proceedings with try number eight, as Burnham finished off a successful season in emphatic fashion.
