Taunton & District League Division 1
Sampford Blues 0, Highbridge Town 4
HIGHBRIDGE Town have been crowned champions of the Taunton & District League after a 4-0 victory at Sampford Blues on Saturday.
Needing just a point to secure the title, Highbridge cruised to an emphatic victory, courtesy of goals from Wayne Hand, Chris Taylor, Stuart Green and Ryan Elliott.
Craig Holey missed a late penalty, but it wasn’t to matter as Highbridge signed off a successful season in style.
Town won 13 of their 18 league games this season, losing four and drawing just once – they lead the division by six points with second placed Locomotives having just one game remaining.
Saturday’s win follows on from last Tuesday’s 2-0 victory at Middlezoy Rovers Reserves.
Goals from Ryan Elliot and Wayne Hand kept Town top of the table and served as perfect preparation for Saturday’s title showdown.
Highbridge Town can now apply to move up into the Somerset County League and their application is currently being considered.
