STAFF and students from Bridgwater College recently attended the 2014 British Colleges Sport (BCS) National Championships at Bath University, after nine College students qualified to represent the South West in their chosen sports.

The first event saw Bridgwater College's Rhianne O'Donnell competing in the women's squash event.

Rhianne started brilliantly, and showed great skill and ability by comfortably beating her two toughest opponents without dropping a game.

Her winning streak continued throughout the three days, and she went on to win the gold medal for the South West region, fully justifying her number five ranking in the country for her age group.

Next to compete for the South West was the women's trampolining squad, with Bridgwater College students Paige Pople, Holly Hobbs, Emma Withers and Rosie Allen competing as part of a squad of six.

Strong routines from them all resulted in third place and a bronze medal.

It was then time for the men's trampoline, and the silver medal-winning squad of five included College students Lewis Dudley, Mason Page and Kieran Dunn, all of whom executed their routines extremely well.

The last student to represent Bridgwater College as part of the South West team was Charlie Attwood.

Charlie, who is currently the top ranked swimmer for this age group in Europe, did not disappoint, scoring 22 points for the South West team by winning gold in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke.

The Wilkinson Sword, given to the region with the most points accumulated over all the events, was won by the South West region.

The South West took the lead comfortably this year with 36 points separating them and the South East who took second place
