HALF-centuries from Matt Counsell and Dan Cavill weren’t quite enough to see Huntspill & District over the line as they lost to Westlands by just seven runs in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League.
Chasing 192 to win, Huntspill finished up on 184-8 to fall agonisingly short.
Elsewhere in the division, Wedmore fell to a heavy defeat against Uphill Castle II, going down by 59 runs.
M Boley (42) and N Emery (20) were the mainstay of Wedmore’s innings, but they lacked any real support as their side were eventually all out for 89 – chasing 149.
Earlier, R Burgess (2-23) and J Burgess (2-27) put in strong bowling performances to help restrict Uphill.
In Division Five, East Huntspill narrowly beat Baltonsborough by 20 runs thanks to a stunning all round display from Andy Chedzey.
Chedzey hit 27 to guide East to 116 all out, before taking 5-18 to help bowl Baltonsborough out for just 96.
In Division Eight South, East Huntspill II completed a crushing victory over Belvedere II, bowling their opponents out for just 22.
D West made 79 for East as they posted 149-7 from their 45 overs, before J Hicks (4-11), K Crenol (3-3) and R Cave (2-2) tore through the Belvedere batting line-up to seal an emphatic win.
Wedmore II went down by five wickets at Trull in Division Nine South East, despite 33 not out from B Halford – and in Nine North West, Wedmore were thrashed by seven wickets by Weston-super-Mare.
