SOMERSET play their most important Nat West T20 Blast match of the campaign so far today when they entertain Glamorgan at the County Ground at 5.30pm.

After winning their opener against Gloucestershire in Bristol two weeks ago, Somerset have been beaten twice on home turf so will be keen to get a win put the situation right and send their supporters home happy.

Somerset currently sit seventh in the South Group with two points from three games, while Glamorgan are fourth with four from the same number of matches.

Although there are 14 matches to be played all told in the group stages, Director of Cricket Dave Nosworthy does not want the Cidermen to fall too far behind the top four.

Somerset have a good record against the Welsh county, having won 13 out of the 19 matches the teams have played since T20 began in 2003.

Nosworthy said: “Playing our neighbours Glamorgan is always a tough encounter and we look forward to taking them on. They are coming off a couple of wins while in the T20 competition we are coming off a few losses.

“I therefore have no doubt that our players are looking to get back on track – and Glamorgan can expect a real fight on their hands. As a team we will need to really be on top of our game – and will have to execute our games plans and disciplines superbly well.”

Nosworthy added: “Playing at the County Ground is always a privilege, and having all the members and supporters well behind the team just creates an awesome atmosphere.”

Meanwhile, in the County Championship Somerset were yesterday (Wednesday) closing in on their third win of the season against Lancashire at Manchester, but were denied by rain.

The Cidermen scored 420, which included 155 from Alviro Petersen and 91 for Nick Compton, before bowling Lancashire out for 203.

Overnight the hosts still needed a further 122 runs to make Marcus Trescothick’s team bat again with seven second innings wickets remaining.

The Cidermen return to four day action on Sunday when they host Sussex at the County Ground in Taunton starting at 11am.

After beating Sussex at Hove earlier in the season by an innings and 11 runs Somerset will be looking to notch up their first double in championship cricket for sometime.
