A COSTLY batting collapse saw Wedmore slip to a seven-wicket defeat against East Coker in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League.

Phil Patch top scored with 31 for Wedmore and K. Wall added 23, but they lacked support as they slumped to 92 all out.

East Coker were rarely troubled in their chase, losing just three wickets, all to the bowling of N. Emery (3-36), as they eased to victory.

Elsewhere in the division, Huntspill & District also failed to reach triple figures, dismissed for just 98 in pursuit of Uphill Castle IIs’ 197-6.

Sam Lillycrop starred for Huntspill, scoring 37 and taking 2-37, but T. Garner was the only other player to reach double figures as Huntspill fell well short of their target.

Earlier, Matt Counsell had taken 2-45 to help restrict Uphill to below 200.

In Division Five, East Huntspill suffered a heavy 136-run defeat to Lydford despite 3-54 from Andy Chedzey.

K. Butt (16) and J. Melhuish (14) top scored for East Huntspill, but they were skittled out for just 102 in reply to Lydford’s 238-6.

Huntspill & District IIs also came out on the losing side, going down by 88 runs to Weston-super-Mare IV in Division 9NW.

Chasing 199 to win, Huntspill were bowled out for 110 with C. Nayagam (19) and P. Garner (19no) making the only noticeable contributions.

Also in 9NW, Wedmore A were another side to be bowled out for under 100 as they slumped to 79 all out in reply to Sparkford’s 197-4.

F. Wilkinson (21) and T. Ingle (2-37) were the only Wedmore players to impress.
