GOLF: Ladies Captain's Day at Burnham & Berrow

BURNHAM and Berrow Ladies Captain, Donna Robertson celebrated her Captains' Day with a three-ball bowmaker.

After a cloudy start the sun broke through and the ladies enjoyed some perfect golfing conditions.

Hazel Bevan, Jane Pitcher and Eileen McCarthy took the honours with 76 points from Alice Robinson, Patsy Ashford and Mary Barton in second place with 72.

With everyone starting and finishing together following a shotgun start the event provided not only competition, but an enjoyable social occasion that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who played.

Charlie Huggins won division one of the June Medal and the Junior Hatcher Cup with a gross score of 71 for a nett 66 and a four shot victory. Frank Ellis came in second edging out Peter Yensen and Miles Richardson on after a countback after the trio had tied with 70's.

This reduces junior captain Charlie's handicap down to five and on current form looks like further reductions may soon be on the cards.

Division two was won by Robert Baber with a 74 two shots clear of Robert Sutton, Eugene Kinchella and Clive Matthews who all tied on 76.

Burnham & Berrow are through to the seventh round of the Mail on Sunday National Club Classic after a fantastic 3 ½ to 1 ½ victory over a strong Royal North Devon team at Burnham.

Wins for Mark Woods, Andy Harriot and Harvey Sampson, a half for Club Captain Neil Darby and a rare defeat for Vice Captain Adrian Deakins (whose opponent was five under after 13 holes) secured their place in the last 32.
