BURNHAM and Berrow Golf Club members turned out in force to support club captain Neil Darby on his Captains’ Day.

Despite the weather predictions of thunder and lightning which threatened to cause disruption to the annual event, the big field of over 140 competitors managed to get round without a drop of rain much to the relief of everyone who was involved.

Andy Fisher, Matt Houghton and John Nuttall swept to victory with 92 points in the best two stableford scores to count from three format winning by a massive six point margin.

Four handicapper Matt Houghton played a major part in the team’s massive score by covering the difficult links course in just 68 shots, which included four birdies and an eagle at the fourth.

This was almost matched by fellow team member Andy Fisher who also plays off four handicap who made three birdies and an eagle at the 13th.

Second place went to Brett-Halling Brown, Bryn Jones and Steve O’Connell who beat Steve Cartwright, Stuart Cook and David Lloyd into third place on a countback after they had tied with 86 points.

The best score by a ladies team went to Mel Bell, Annette Poynton and Alice Robinson with 78 points.

Following the conclusion of play a massive downpour caused a slight delay before newly appointed club professional David Haines entertained the members with his golf trick shot show.

Entertainment carried on into the evening in the clubhouse with a singer and charity auction which raised further funds for the captain’s charity, Help the Child, which including fund raised from his charity day a few weeks previous and now stands at over £14,000.
