ROB Gamlin led Wedmore II to a four-wicket victory over Crewkerne II in Division 9SE of the Somerset Cricket League.

Gamlin scored 66 as Wedmore successfully chased down Crewkerne’s 180-3, while R. McArthur also added 37.

Earlier, Billy Halford (2-51) was the pick of the Wedmore bowlers as they kept Crewkerne below 200.

In Division 9NW, Huntspill & District II fell 41 runs short at Sparkford despite 51 from S. Durkin.

J. Podbury added 35 to follow up the two wickets he had earlier taken with the ball (2-50), but it wasn’t enough for Huntspill.

P. Maxwell (2-41) was the pick of the Huntspill bowlers.

East Huntspill were edged out by two wickets by Banwell & Churchill in Division 5 as they failed to defend 142-6.

J. Picton (38) and Rob Pomeroy (24) both made telling contributions in the East Huntspill innings, but lacked support, which left their side short of a competitive total.

A fighting display from the bowlers almost pinched an unlikely victory, though, with Pomeroy (1-23), I. Cooke (1-14), I. Phillips (1-32) and M. Crook (1-54) all chipping in.

In Division 3, a disappointing batting performance saw Wedmore slump to a nine-wicket defeat to Long Sutton.

D. Haining (26) and I. Harris (26) pitched in lower down the order after the top six failed to give Wedmore a foothold in the game, but when Harris was the last man out Wedmore had fallen well short of a good total.

So it proved as Long Sutton cruised to victory with little fuss in just 29 overs.

Martyn Boley (1-23) claimed Wedmore’s solitary wicket on what turned out to be a thoroughly disappointing afternoon.
