Errea County Division 2W

Burnham United Res 6, Weston St John Res 1

A FIRST-half hat-trick from captain Joe Selway was the highlight of an outstanding Burnham performance, as they thrashed Weston St John on Saturday.

The team picked up their first points of the season after some heavy defeats and were better than their opponents all over the pitch, creating many chances and keeping the ball well for long periods of time.

Burnham created a chance in the opening minutes, however Simon Smith was unable to beat the keeper one-on-one.

However, if wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken after the impressive Dan Broom beat a defender and crossed for Selway to tuck into an empty net.

Smith then doubled the lead, before Selway completed his hat-trick.

Just before the break, Owen Jandrell scored with an excellent goal, beating two players before firing past the keeper.

The second half was different to the first half as Burnham stood off and didn’t continue with the same intensity.

On 60 minutes, Hicks, Rossiter and Waite replaced Young, Jandrell and Selway.

Weston St John pulled a goal back midway through the half, with the good solo effort – but Smith scored his second of the game just before the final whistle to complete the rout.
