GAIL and Steve Mason were the winners of the 2014 Husband and Wife Greensomes competition on Saturday at Brean, after scoring 39 stableford points.

This gave them a two point winning margin over Murray and Sandra Parsons, who themselves edged out Ken and Sheila Rouse after a countback for the runners up spot.

Scoring was excellent in Saturday's other competition, the Super Series, with many players beating their handicaps being testament to the great condition the course at Brean is in at present.

42 points was the winning number with three players returning that total.

The countback rules were applied to the 42 point cards and Tony Romeo was awarded first spot ahead of Vince Ford with Jim McLauchlan having to settle for third.

Away from Brean on Saturday, the Division Two Avalon League team concluded their season with a visit to Vivary Park in Taunton.

It was a somewhat makeshift side that team Captain Steve Bateman assembled due to much unavailability amongst the ranks but the players that took to the course did the club proud as they secured a tied game at 2.5 points apiece against the Division winners.

This result meant Brean ended their 2014 campaign in a very respectable third place in the League overall.

Roger Phillips hasn't been in the best of form of late. but returned to winning ways with success in the September Seniors Stableford.

His 42-point return saw him end one point ahead of runner up George Stratford and four ahead of third-place finisher Tony Roper.

Pete Douglas was up to his winning ways as he took first position in the second round of the Seniors Eclectic competition two days later.

He returned a nett 67 off of his new single figure handicap to head home Barrie Tucker and the consistent Barry Fisher was third after a nett 69.

Dave Bradley won the Final of the Bill Martin Trophy on Saturday beating John Cullinan 2&1.

The event is the summer singles matchplay event for Division two players and the final produced some high quality golf from both players. B radley holed some crucial putts throughout the round to keep Cullinan at arm’s length and crucially another one dropped for him to decide the outcome at the penultimate hole.
