ENMORE Park’s David Dixon needed just 65 strokes to win the second Gloucester and Somerset PGA Medal of the season at Brean Golf Club.

He carded seven birdies and a double bogey in his five under par winning round, which was three better than his nearest challenger, Giuseppe Licata.

The ever-improving layout at Brean certainly got the 27-strong field thinking as many holes have water hazards and small greens to contend with.

The winds were light, though, and the greens rolled well on another excellent autumn day for golf, so scoring was expected to be good.

Dixon was out early, and picked up birdies at the third and fourth holes before giving them straight back with a misjudged attempt to drive the fifth green which ended out of bounds.

The birdies soon flowed at regular intervals for him, though, with the eighth, tenth, 12th, 14th and 15th succumbing to his superb play.

Licata was the runner-up on two under par 68, which saw him start slowly and sit at two over par following his second dropped shot of the round at the treacherous par five seventh.

He dropped a shot at the long par three 15th, but still edged out host pro Andrew March by one.

March, G&S PGA chairman, had spent the last two days with his son, Logan, in hospital as he had an operation to repair his cleft palate, and his dad started slowly.

March maintained his top spot in the Total Triumph G&S PGA Order of Merit.

Licata is still his nearest challenger after his second consecutive runner-up finish.

n On the first day of rain for what seemed like many weeks, Pete Barton took the top spot in the October Stableford at Brean Gold Club.

His point card won him the Division One award by two points from Dan Broom.

Two players match Broom’s 38-point total in Division Two, and a countback was necessary to decide that winner.

Graham Foy took the honours as he edged out the consistent Neil Barker with a better back nine.

The familiar name of Gordy Wheelaghan topped the Division Three leader board with 36 points.

This gave him another victory to add to his summer of success as he relegated Marc Birt into the runner-up position with 34.

The seniors’ annual home match against Sedgemoor Police ended in a 3-3 draw.

Though Tony Roper/Andrew Smith and Barry Fisher/Jeremy Savill both won, the captain’s team of the day had to be the Chris Stephens/Ken Rouse combination, who were victorious by a sizable score of 8 and 6.

Dai Wood again headed the score charts in the October Seniors Stableford.

He carded 40 points to beat a large field of players in the benign conditions of Thursday morning.

The runner-up, just one point behind, was Pete Douglas with John Sherwood taking third place ahead of Barry Fisher on countback after they both notched up 38 points.
