Burnham United Reserves 1, Hengrove Athletic 1

BURNHAM United Reserves put in an improved performance following last week’s disappointing defeat, to draw 1-1 with Hengrove Athletic.

Alex Plume’s first-half penalty fired the hosts into a 1-0 lead, but Hengrove equalised shortly before the break to earn a point.

The team was boosted by the return of Simon Dawes and Alex Plume, who both at centre back were excellent throughout. The sides were evenly matched in the early exchanges, with goal keeper Jake Barritt making two excellent saves.

Burnham took the lead halfway through the half, when Dan Broom ran onto a through-ball and rounded the keeper, only to be brought down.

A penalty was awarded and Plume smashed the ball past the keeper. Just before halftime, Hengrove equalised.

The second half was much the same, with a lot of Burnham’s good attaching play coming from Harrison Kidner.

The end of the game was marred by a nasty injury to Hengrove midfielder David Worthington, who fell badly and dislocated his knee.

An Ambulance was called and the game was delayed.

The final 10 minutes was played and the game ended in a fair result.

Burnham Reserves manager Ollie Taylor said: “I am pleased with the players for a battling performance. The whole of Burnham United FC wish Dave Worthington a speedy recovery with his injury.”
