Division Two Cup

Highbridge Town 4, Churchill Club 70 1

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt believes Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Churchill Club 70 could help kick start their season, after his side cruised into the quarter-finals of the Division Two cup.

Goals from Tom Bailey, Chris Taylor, Will Bailey and Ryan Elliot sealed an emphatic victory for Town – and Pitt was encouraged by the number of chances created by his side.

He said: “I was very pleased with our performance and the fact we were creating so many opportunities and on a different day this could easily have been 10.

“It's nice to already have our place in the quarter finals with one game to spare.

“If we keep this level of performance up we will start climbing up the league and be in a position to challenge - and that starts this Saturday when we welcome Uphill Castle to the REC.”

Town fielded a strong starting line up that welcomed back Chris Taylor from suspension and also saw the debut of new signing Matt Scott from rivals Burnham United.

They started the game in positive fashion on the front foot and were rewarded for their efforts 20 minutes into the half when a Chris Taylor free kick could not be held by the keeper and Tom Bailey was on hand to knock the loose ball home.

Town continued to press with Scott and Taylor working hard upfront and the Town midfield of the Bailey brothers, Hirons, Powell and Hampson were taking control - and 5 minutes from half time, a stinging drive across goal from the returning Taylor put Town two up at the break.

After the break Churchill pulled a goal back, but Town set back to work and created many chances that on another day would have been converted.

Will Bailey capped a fine game with a lovely, low, one-touch finish while entering the box and substitute Ryan Elliott made no mistake late in the game with a cool finish after good work down the right by Powell.
