Burnham 34, Barton Hill 11
BURNHAM got back to winning ways with an impressive 34-11 victory over Barton Hill on Saturday.
The hosts crossed five times to seal a bonus-point win, with tries from Jordan Paul (2), Tim Piper, Sam Wall and Tom Chaffey.
Burnham took the lead with a Piper penalty after three minutes as Barton Hill were caught offside, only for the visitors to return the compliment nine minutes later.
A quickly taken penalty eventually led to the opening try of the afternoon, as sharp work from Lewis released Matt Love to fly in under the posts.
Piper added the conversion and soon got himself amongst the try scorers, dummying inside before dashing to line.
Barton Hill started the second half in determined mood and pulled a score back courtesy of a driving maul, but Burnham hit back straight away, with Sam Wall claiming his debut first team try.
After a period of prolonger Barton Hill pressure, Tom Chaffey cut through the defence to score Burnham’s fourth – and with minutes remaining, Wheller slipped the ball inside to a marauding Jordan Paul to round off proceedings in style.
Head coach Graham Buller said: “Despite late cry offs, Burnham showed greater commitment, held their defensive line in place, were more destructive in the loose thereby allowing them more freedom to produce their game plan. Well done Burnham.”
Burnham are away to high flying Bristol Harlequins this week (3pm KO).
