Somerset Two West

Wiveliscombe 48, Burnham II 3

BURNHAM II slumped to a heavy defeat at the hands of Wiveliscombe, after being overpowered by the hosts.

It was Burnham who displayed the most promise in the early exchanges, but it was the home side that broke the deadlock with a strong counter attack try.

Never the less Burnham retained the effort and continually challenged a stronger growing Wivi side.

Good carries from Sam Viggers, Will Conway, Mason Shaw and Tim James exposed weakness in the Wivi defence - and in the scrum, Burnham held strong.

Regular ball was recycled from the scrum and the dominance in the air of Osgood and Chris Jones was commendable.

As was the case in other games where numbers are so important, injury hit and the scrums became uncontested with two loan players from the home side.

It was an afternoon of attrition that was sustained by the Burnham Blues, but the hosts were too powerful and ran out convincing winners.

Burnham host Hornets this weekend, 3pm KO.
