Burnham II 28, Hornets 17

BURNHAM II fought back from 17-0 down to beat Hornets 28-17 on Saturday.

Hornets got out of the blocks at pace and were soon putting Burnham under pressure and raced into a 17-0 lead courtesy of three tries.

Burnham hit back when intelligent tactical kicking from Wills Conway opened up a gap on the left wing, which saw Massie Shaw feed Elliot Donnelley to go under the posts.

As the second half started it was a focused Burnham side that lined up.

Conway’s inch-perfect kick again caused problems in the Hornets defence and Blakey broke out to score under the posts.

Maca added a third try for Burnham following more strong work to take the home side into the lead, but with Hornets still dangerous there was no room for compliancy.

Burnham were working hard and holding their composure – and the icing on the cake was left to Alex Watkins to seal the game with a try in the closing stages. Burnham travel to Taunton this weekend.
