Somerset County Division Two West

Highbridge Town 1, Uphill Castle 4

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt described Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Uphill Castle as “really disappointing” and urged his side to learn from their mistakes.

Town found themselves 3-0 down inside the first 30 minutes after a number of defensive errors were ruthlessly punished by the visitors – and Pitt said his side must cut out the mistakes if they are to success at County League level.

He said: “We were really disappointing on Saturday and made too many mistakes. Uphill are a good footballing side but we gave them three goals through our own errors.

“An under hit back-pass, people switching off, we made it too easy for Uphill and they took advantage.

“That’s the measure of County League football I think – in the Taunton & District League you can make some of these mistakes and they don’t get punished, but the better sides in this league take their chances and we’ve got to cut out the mistakes at this level.”

Chris Taylor pulled a goal back for Town just before half-time courtesy of a quick breakaway and a neat finish – but another defensive lapse just 30 seconds into the second half put the game to bed, as Uphill scored their fourth of the afternoon to secure the points.

Highbridge host Division two West basement side Weston St Johns this weekend, before travelling to Ashton United in the second round of the Somerset Senior Cup the following weekend.
