OF the three teams sharing top spot in Division 1 of the Purtion and District Skittles League, only Stop-Outs managed a win, defeating Wanderers by 31 pins, and therefore remain top of the table two points clear of Nomads and Farmer Boys.

Nomads went down by 48 at Woolavington Boys, who once again had Mike Oxman top scoring with 71, closely followed by Scott Davey on 70. Chris Coggins was top scorer for the defeated team with 70.

Farmer Boys lost a very close encounter at home to Barstewards, losing by two, even though Mike House hit 81. Barstewards had Dan Mitchell in good form with 70, which enabled them to move clear of the bottom of the league.

Pirates are still lurking behind the top three, but have had five home wins in their seven games. This week they whitewashed Crown, winning all seven hands for an overall 38-pin win with captain Roger Palfrey top scoring with 69 and Dave Counsells 70 for the defeated team, not being supported by his teammates.

Foxes and Ferrets were only able to take seven players to Polden Bears and subsequently lost by 34, which allowed the Bears to close the gap at the bottom of the league to one point between themselves and Foxes & Ferrets.

Polden Turkeys, the other team at the bottom, also managed a home win, this time defeating Knowle Otters by 30 after 82 on their last hand to pull 23, with spares from Mike Stradling, Sam Williams and top scorer Mike Cox.

In Division 2, Crusaders hit some terrific form with 554 at The Lamb, Weare, to defeat Three Cees by 73.

Ben Scott hit the highest score of the season so far with a four-spare 93, ably supported by George Scott on 76 and Robert Haggett with 74.

Landlords Rejects remain top of the league after a 10-pin defeat of Spitfires, with Scott Gardner hitting 68 for the winning team.

Rejects are still only one point clear of Herdsmen and Oddsquad as they both had away wins – Herdsmen at Swannies by nine, even though Dave Tucker hit 70, and Oddsquad at Wheatsheaf Boys by 14.

Cross Your Hart are still struggling at the bottom, losing by 20 this week to Haymakers at Watchfield Inn
