Somerset County League Division Two West

Highbridge Town 17, Weston St John Reserves 0

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt said he was “delighted” with his side following a crushing 17-0 victory over lowly Weston St Johns on Saturday.

Matt Scott bagged five and Mike Green four, before half-time to send Town into the break leading 10-0 – and there was little let-up in the second half, as goals from Will Bailey (2), Chris Taylor, Jack Hirons (2), Ryan Elliott and Sam Redstone completed the most convincing of victories.

Pitt said: “I was delighted with our performance and while the result was a one-sided affair no other team had done to St Johns what we did on Saturday.

“We have been leaking too many goals which prompted a change in formation and it really paid off with us looking solid all over the park.

“We did not waste many chances at all Saturday and what really impressed me most was our discipline in holding our shape from the first minute to last, as its quite easy when you’re a few goals up for everyone to bomb forward to get on the score sheet and leave yourself open at the back - but we were brilliant all over the park and all 14 lads should hold their heads high and use this as a platform to start pushing up the league.”

Town sitting third bottom after a frustrating start to life in the County League made some changes to personnel and formation and it paid dividends after two minutes when Will Bailey completed a well worked goal - and two minutes laterTown doubled the lead through Matt Scott from the penalty spot.

Will Bailey added a spectacular drive for his second shortly after and Town were four up by 10 minutes, with Scott curling a shot into the bottom corner.

There were further goals in the half with Will Bailey completing his hat-trick and Matt Scott adding another three to come away with five for the for the half.

Chris Taylor and Sam Redstone added a goal apiece to go in at half-time 10-0 up.

The second half played out much like the first with Mike Green impressing up top after coming on and scoring four - one a beautiful chip from outside the area over the St Johns keeper.

Jack Hirons made great impression also coming on and scoring two, with captain Ryan Elliott grabbing the other goal to earn Town their record win.
