Somerset County Division Two West
Burnham United Reserves 0, Winscombe 1
BURNHAM United Reserves went down 1-0 to league leaders Winscombe on Saturday, in a game that featured four penalties.
In the opening minutes, Winscombe were awarded a penalty for a push in the box.
This penalty was saved by the feet of Matt Dibble – and for the rest of the half Winscombe attacked Burnham’s goal, but the back line of Kieran McLauchlin, Simon Dawes, James Ford and Jordan Costello were all outstanding and strong in any tackles.
The midfield competed well, with Steve Worthington, Aaron Hardwidge and Dan Reason working hard to break any Winscombe forward play.
In the second half, Worthington was replaced by Mike Stevens and Winscombe were awarded another penalty. This time the striker scored - but the kick was called back to be retaken – however the kick was converted at the second time of asking.
This didn’t dent Burnham’s hopes of getting something from the game – and at this stage the game opened up and Burnham, looked more threatening going forward with good work from Harry Wedgewood-Potts and Dan Broom. Winscombe were awarded another penalty, but Dibble saved again.
Reasons had a good chance near the end, but could take it.
Manager Ollie Taylor said after the game: “In the end a fair result, I was really pleased with the attitude and commitment of the whole team, and hope we can build on this performance for future games.”
Man of the Match- James Ford.
Team: Dibble, McLauchlin, Dawes, Ford, Costello, Kidner (Young), Hardwidge, Worthington (Stevens), Reasons, Broom, Wedgewood-Potts
