PGA Board member David Haines recorded his first event win since becoming the Head Professional at Burnham and Berrow earlier this year.

He posted a one under par score of 70, helped by some monster putts, to claim a share of top spot in the G&S PGA Medal at The Kendleshire with Ed Goodwin from Cirencester.

As is usually the case each season the event attracted an excellent entry.

Haines has had a hectic few weeks with PGA commitments along with running the busy Somerset club but produced one of his best performances of the year.

He started the day with the first of his monster putts dropping for an opening birdie before giving the shot straight back at the second.

Disaster struck at the third when he racked up a triple bogey eight but he swiftly made another birdie at the fourth.

Back to back gains at the seventh and eighth saw him out in level par figures.

His longest putt of the day dropped at the tenth, suggested to be around 60ft by one of his playing partners, for his fifth birdie to take him back under the card.

The only break in a run of pars on the back nine to the clubhouse was a bogey at the 12th and his final birdie at the next hole.

To top up his share of the first place prize money he won the birdie sweep and also shared the Over 40’s sweep as well.

He shared that with his co winner Ed Goodwin, a recent addition to the Over 40’s category. Goodwin has been in steady if not spectacular form so far this season and his sub par score was made up by an eagle at the 8th and birdies at the 9th and 13th being offset by three bogies.
