THE Avenue Tennis Club staged a festival of tennis for the junior players at the club over the weekend of October 18/19.

A total of 26 players took part in match-play and tournaments - and a couple of the club's mini red (under eight) players got their first taste of competitive tennis, with some matches played on a shorter court and with a slower, low bouncing ball.

In the early afternoon the first tournament of the day for the mini oranges (nine and under players) took place.

Eight players battled it out on the courts for three hours, with Theo Clarke emerging as the eventual winner.

The standard of play was excellent from all players and everyone left with a smile on their face.

Mini green (10 and under) was up next for another eight players and the standard was exceptional, culminating in a dramatic final between Josh Proctor and orange champion Theo Clarke.

Every game seemed to go to deuce and the four games to love score line did not do justice to the two gladiators. But running on empty, Theo (pictured) was crowned green ball king.
