SOMERSET all-rounder Pete Trego has signed an extension to his contract which will see him remain at the County Ground until at least the end of the 2016 season.

Trego, who made his first class debut for Somerset back in 2000, has been awarded a benefit year by the club in 2015 – and the 33-year-old believes there is plenty more to come from him.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted with the way that I have been playing, I think my consistency is improving year in year out.

“I train hard in the gym and I am feeling really fit and strong. Actually I feel that at 33 years of age I haven’t hit my straps yet and I’m really excited for the next few years.

“I’m delighted that my skills will be on show with Somerset at the County Ground in Taunton.”

Trego has scored over 13,000 runs for the county across all formats and taken nearly 600 wickets.

Matt Maynard the Somerset Director of Cricket said: “Over the years Pete Trego has played a key role in the team at Somerset in all forms of the game and I am delighted that he has signed an extension to his contract.

“I have seen Pete in action on a number of occasions both as a player and as an opposition coach so I know that he is a real team man and fiercely competitive. Now I look forward to having him on my side.”
