Somerset Senior Cup second Round

Middlezoy Rovers 3 Berrow 2

BERROW crashed out of the Somerset Senior Cup with a 3-2 defeat at first division Middlezoy Rovers.

Jack Taylor netted twice for Berrow, but it wasn’t enough as Zoy’s Dan Luce fired home the winner with ten minutes to play.

On a small, bumpy pitch with a strong wind, it was Berrow who started best.

Luke McErlain’s free kick found Jack Taylor in the box and he was fouled. He stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way.

Middlezoy, playing with the wind, started to come more into the game and Nick Slack was forced to make a great save in a one-on-one.

It wasn’t long before they did force an equaliser when a free kick from the edge of box found its way into the corner.

Scott Lismore then found Taylor and he went through to score only for a tight call from the linesman to rule it out.

Middlezoy took the lead when an in-swinging corner was well headed into the corner of the net.

Berrow went close on the stroke of half-time with Lismore crossing for Taylor, who was inches away from scoring.

The second half was very much dominated by the wind and the home side dealt with it much better.

Berrow overhit theirpasses and didn’t really threaten the Zoy keeper.

Jack Smith came on up front and linked up well with Taylor, and with 20 minutes to go his ball down the line was met by the sriker 40 yards from goal.

On the touchline and with the keeper in no-man’s land, he lifted the ball brilliantly over him and into the net.

Berrow were on top, but the home side defended well and were rewarded with ten minutes to go when Berrow lost the ball in their own area and Luce forced it home.

Berrow forced a succession of corners and free kicks as the game entered its dying moments, and Lismore came closest when his header was cleared off the line, but the home side clung on and could have added to their lead on the break in the final seconds.
