Stothert & Pitt 17 Burnham on Sea 29
BURNHAM secured a third win in four games thanks to a dominant second-half display as they beat basement side Stothert & Pitt 29-17.
Tries from Matt Love and Richard Manley, with two from Jordyn Wikiteria, secured a bonus point win for the visitors as they climb to eighth place in Western Counties North.
Burnham started with everything in their favour – slope and wind – but were unable to capitalise and within three minutes the hosts were leading 7-0.
Burnham came back with a storming run by Beau Dickins, which was quickly recycled for Wikiteria to cross over – Tom Chaffey converted.
It took a further 15 minutes before Burnham could exert sufficient pressure on their opponents as Manley crashed over for his maiden first team try – Chaffey again converted for a 14-7 lead.
This only seemed to galvanise S&P, and, combined with a series of missed tackles by Burnham, they levelled the score just before halftime.
S&P started the second half by forcing Burnham to concede a penalty and went ahead 17-14, but this was the catalyst which woke Burnham up.
First, Wikiteria showed considerable strength to cross the line for his second before Chaffey added a penalty.
Then, after winning two consecutive penalty line-outs, Burnham went through a series of phases to create enough space out wide for Matt Love to finish off.
Chaffey again obliged to make it 29-17
