HIGHBRIDGE & District Skittles League Division 4 side Athlectico Madritz caused the biggest upset in the KO Cup last week, defeating division 1 side and cup holders The Steamers by a massive 50 pins at Highbridge Social Club.

Steamers had no answer to the Madritz boys, who pulled on six hands.

Hero of the night was Ashley Plant, who topped the board with 80.

The Steamers’ stablemates, Shunters, also went tumbling out of the cup, going down by 13 pins to division 3 side Misfits, but they only had seven players.

Another first division casualty was the Gunners, who lost by 46 pins to division 3 side The Hedgejumpers at the Ritz Social Club, Alex Taylor 88 and Gareth Waterfield 76 doing the damage.

The Social Club was yet another first division team who lost to lower division opponents – the Alleycats inflicted a 22-pin victory over them at the Pawlett Pavilion with Tim Heal taking the plaudits with 73 for the Cats.

The closest match of the night was at the Crown Inn where the White Rebels had only a pin to spare over the Lymp Dicks.

Martin Rich 71 and Richard Wall 72 top scored for the Rebels, while Mike Brooker top scored with 77 for the Dicks.

Craig Holley rattled up 88 at the Basonbridge Inn as his team, Why Try?, defeated Coopermen by 106 pins at the Basonbridge Inn and completed a whitewash, but that margin of victory was superseded by the Cowboys at the Victoria Hotel, who amassed 529, which left If Only trailing by an incredible 135 pins.

Kevin Perrett 82 and Tom Gooding 71 starred for the Cowboys.

The Lads, who haven’t won this season, came good at the Brent knoll Inn, defeating Crown Criminals by 14 pins.
